The OncoCommunicAging (OCA) research line, lead by ASCoR researcher Julia van Weert, received a 286,000 euro grant from KWF Kankerbestrijding (the Dutch Cancer Society) on a project called “How to effectively tailor website information to older cancer patients’ mode preferences: A Randomized Controlled Trial”.
Methodology: In this study, colorectal cancer patients will be randomly assigned to receive online information tailored to their mode preferences (offering choices between text only, text with illustrations, video or a combination of these modes) or similar online information presented in a fixed manner without offering choices (three control groups). The study particularly focuses on differences between older (> 65 year) and younger (< 65 year) patients.
The project is a continuation of the current PhD project of Nadine Bol (OCA-1) and will be conducted at the multidisciplinary outpatient clinic of the Gastro Intestinal Oncological Centre Amsterdam (GIOCA) in collaboration with Eugène Loos (ASCoR) and the department of Medical Psychology of the Academic Medical Center (AMC).
