Course: 77643K007Y Media4Health (Elective, Master level, 6 ECTS)
Lecturers: Dr. Barbara Schouten, Dr. Annemiek Linn

Technology is increasingly integrated in our lives. For many of us, our smartphone is the first and last thing we look at every day. This is a sign of how connected we are to new technology. We track our fitness performance by smartwatches, use virtual reality to maintain a healthy diet, robots keep elderly patients company and doctors go mobile to interact with patients. These are just a few examples indicating how amazing these technologies are. Because of the continuous developments, you will learn the newest technologies that can be used to change health behavior. This elective goes where other electives stop: by applying theory to practice and vice versa, you will learn to design and build your own theory-based website. And the good news is that you don’t need to be tech-savvy at all! You will learn how simple it is to apply your knowledge in a practical manner, which is an excellent opportunity to prepare yourself for your professional career. In this elective, students of any background will be provided with an in-depth overview of the current state of the art. You will learn how to design behavior change support systems, and understand theories underlying these systems’ effectiveness.
